Visit Indonesia Year 2008

On 26 December, the Minister of Culture and Tourism Jero Wacik officially launched Visit Indonesia Year 2008, which aims to reach 7 million tourist arrivals in 2008, with at least 100 events throughout the archipelago throughout the year.

During January-November 2007, the number of tourists visiting Indonesia promising surged by 14% over the same period in 2006, the Central Bureau of Statistics data showed.

The 4.11 million arrivals through Indonesia's 15 main entry points have been strengthened by a resurgence of tourism in Bali, which saw an increase of 32.3% to 1.59 million visitors' Island from January to November. Jakarta of the Soekarno-Hatta airport has recorded the second highest number of tourists to 1.05 million arrivals, changed little, however, to 1.04 million from the same period in 2006, wrote AFP.

The Ministry of Culture and Tourism, therefore, believes that the arrivals count through small ports of entry, and cruise passengers, the total number of visitors to Indonesia for the year 2007 will reach 5.5 million, up 12.9% from 4.87 million foreign tourists who visited Indonesia in 2006, who spent a total of US $ 4.45 billion. This is a record number of visitors to Indonesia in the past decade said Minister Jero Wacik, but admitting that this number still falls short of the target sooner 6 million arrivals in 2007.

Although VIY target for 2008 was set at $ 7 million, an increase of 27.3% compared to 2007 figures, earning $ 5 billion for the country, however, the ministry has set a pessimistic estimate 6 million (up 9%), and an average estimate at $ 6.5 million (up 18%) for 2008 visitors.
